One of the goals of a Marymount education is to develop an informed awareness of beauty in the universe. The performing and visual arts play a prominent role in this regard as students from Early Childhood to Grade 12 learn to create, appreciate, and respond to beauty while exercising their own creativity in imaginative and inspiring ways.
Marymount students also enjoy the opportunity to take individual music lessons with professional musicians on campus and participate in music and drama classes as after school activities.
In the Secondary School, students take classes in music, drama, and the visual arts during their Middle School years and may continue to pursue these subjects as electives in High School. Music students enjoy opportunities to perform for the school community during the Secondary School's annual Christmas Concert and Spring Concert. Similiarly, drama students may participate in the Fall Play and Spring Musical. Students following the International Baccalaureate program can take courses in IB art and exhibit their work to the public during the annual IB Art Vernissage.
Marymount is a also center for the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Early Childhood classes incorporate drawing, painting, singing, and other forms of creative expression to reinforce the curriculum. The students also take classes led by the Elementary School music teacher during which they have opportunity to play musical instruments and learn about musical concepts such as melody and rhythm. Several times each year the students take to the stage to perform for parents and the peers in colorful and heartwarming productions.
